The word chameleon diamond has one think of loose diamonds amock on a tray. It is heat that changes the colour, so as a Chameleon Diamond comes closeer to the heat of lights it will show yellow tinges amidst its otherwise pure white sparkle. So a Chameleon is someting that can change its color by the movement or need. And in the case of the Chameleon Diamond the only way you need to step lightly around this chameleon diamond is to hold it up to good light and turn it gently.
If it has slight tinges of yellow that just out at you are it twists, then you may well have a chameleon diamond. You may hold it further, place it on the counter and it looks perfect. The secret is that it changes by heat, so when it is closer to the lights is when it will change. Another issue is to what extend your diamond fluorescence may affect its value. While the stone may sell for 15 percent less if it has a too yellow fluorescence, but blue fluorescence is considered a bonus and a premium price is due.
You need to watch there is not too much fluorescence, as stones with too much fluorescence are often not as lively. You want to speak to a jeweler or trained professional. You must beware the inclination of a chameleon diamond that fluoresces, its true body color can appear different. And speaking of different, did you know that diamonds, those pure white sparkling gem of gems, come in many colors? Diamonds come to us from the fiery inner earth in tones of blue, red, pink, green, lavender, gunmetal blue, coffee brown, even black.
As well, there are very many shades of yellow that come through in diamonds. The most common fancy colors in diamonds are the shades of yellow. A very lively version is named for the bird it so closely is colored to resemble, the canary. Other diamonds can deepen into orange hues, and brown to black. Except for very pale yellow and brown, the off white fancy color diamonds often sell for higher prices than fine colorless diamonds.
A unique and rare red diamond that did not weigh one carat and had very poor clarity sold for a record price at an 1987 auction. Fancy color diamonds are created naturally in many colors. But with chemicals some diamonds are made to be other than how God created them. Fancy color diamonds can be converted by radation and the application of heat. This treatment process works very well with brownish or yellowish diamonds, and can turn each into a glistening diamond to behold and be proud of.So handle your loupe with respect and enjoyment. Have fun, make some money.
