Things To Be Wary Of When Applying Iron On Rhinestones

When getting ready to iron on rhinestones to a garment, one of the most important things to do is to properly prepare. First, you need to make sure your fabric is in rhinestone-ready condition. That means it is clean and free of any wrinkles. The last thing you want is to have a wrinkle ruin your entire rhinestone application.

You also need to properly prepare your iron. You may be tempted to put the temperature up as high as possible, but this is not a good idea. Instead, you want to set your iron to a medium temperature. Faster is not necessarily better in the case of iron on rhinestones. Additionally, take care to ensure your iron is not set for steam, as steam prevents the hot fix glue from sticking.

The surface to lay your garment on is important as well. You may be tempted to just use your ironing board as a surface for your crafting, but that is actually too soft for attaching the rhinestones. You need a sufficiently hard backing surface to press against while you are applying, so you might want to think about using a more sturdy surface like a table.

Once your crafting area is set, you are ready to begin ironing on the rhinestones. You will want to set them out on the fabric in the pattern that you want them to appear. Be sure you take your time doing this so you will be pleased with the final result.

After your pattern is set out, you will want to take your iron and gently press it against the iron on jewels. Hold the iron there for a few seconds so the adhesive on the back of each jewel has the opportunity to melt. As the glue melts it will grab onto the fabric you are trying to affix it onto.

The most important step in the iron on process is to allow your craft to cool. You will be tempted to pick up and look at your garment immediately after you have finished applying the rhinestones. This can actually cause the jewels to fall off, leaving a shiny glue residue. Instead, let the garment completely cool, and you can expect your rhinestones to stay on for a long time to come.
