Lexus Dealers Prepare For Tough Fight

It has been a traumatic month for Toyota. The Japanese brand had until recently enjoyed an enviable reputation for reliability. Then came the recall and the brand suddenly became a toxic property. However, for Lexus dealers the main worry will be how these problems will affect them.
Toyota's luxury division has so far been largely unaffected by the recall. However mud has a tendency to stick. Media reports advise owners to take their affected cars into their local Toyota or Lexus dealers. Just by associating the name in the minds of readers you can't help but wonder if the Japanese giant risks tarnishing a brand that is otherwise performing so well.
There have been some superficial signs that Toyota's quality issues have already had an effect. Some sales figures for January look shaky. While it's always unhelpful to read too much into a single month's numbers, they will nevertheless be causing some nerves in the head quarters of the luxury manufacturer.
This will have main rivals such as Ford, BMW and even Alpha Romeo licking their lips. The latter in particular suffers from a reputation for producing stylish but fragile cars. To see Toyota, which represents everything it is not in terms of reliabilty, struggling will be sweet.
Apart from anything else, some buyers may be holding fire waiting to see if Lexus dealers are forced to cut their prices in order to make sales. If that is the case then buyers could soon find themselves benefiting from some outstanding bargains in the near future. The company is about to find out something about the dark side of consumer power and that you don't always need to be at fault to suffer.
So should you be worried? Well, so far only one model has been included in the recall is the HS 250h Hybrid, which also has problems with its brakes. However, in a more general respect there is no reason to avoid using these cars simply because of the problems of its parent company.
The company explains that it uses a different North American supplier for its accelerator pedal. They are also largely free of any complaints and owners remain remarkably loyal to the make. On initial inspection, therefore, there is no need to abandon the make just because of problems with Toyota.
If you're worried as a consumer it is a good idea to contact your local Lexus dealers. They will give you all the information you need about the car. The biggest problem is fear of the unknown. However that should not deter owners from using a brand that is currently going from strength to strength.
